Picked up a Surco roof basket today. I want to mount it direct to fiberglass top. Anyone have any experience with mounting these racks?

I had a rack on mine (not sure of brand) when I bought it that I took off and sold but it was basically just bolted to the fiberglass top with some rubber isolators between the metal and the fiberglass. Seems like it was pretty sturdy.

pics of the rack installed. I ended up not mounting directly to roof. Next challenge - best way to attach a surfboard.

You could buy those surfboard pads they make for roof racks. There are a bunch of companies including Yakima and Thule. If you're not too concerned with looks, you could always go to Home Depot and get some pipe insulation. You know... those long foam tubes that you cut to length?

Either way you go, you'll probably have to cut the pads to fit. Zip ties would fasten it all down.

By the way... Nice truck! Like the color too. Is that like a cream color? Did you have it painted? If so, did you install the moulding along the side or is it all original paint?

Thanks

Thanks for the tips. The truck is repainted the original factory color. The moulding is original. The tailgate is from a GMC. The truck is actually a 1990 chevy V10 silverado.

Looks great!! So what did you end up using?? This way someone in your same position in the future can do a search and find it.

Rack Mount

Ended up using the Surco mounts instead of going directly to the top.
