I have quite a bit of surface rust over the cab of my Jimmy. I have a very busy schedule and was wondering if theres anything I can cover it with to buy time, like some kind of rustoleum product. Or do I just need to find time and get r done.

I would do a quick scuff with a 3M green pad and then spray some primer. Better than nothing. But if its only going to be outside for a month or so, you should be fine.

If you're going to spend the time to sand off the surface rust and take it to bare metal then you need to use a urethane primer over an etching primer or just use an epoxy primer. Regular rattle can primer will not keep the moisture away from the metal and won't do anything to stop the rust.

104 Just learned that the hard way. Sanded off some surface rust ovr the summer primerd it with a spray can. Someone recently told me I needed to at least spray sum paint ovr it cause the primer wouldnt resist water. duh. I just looked and a bunch of rust everywhere now. Any other advice is welcome so I cn do this correctly. thx

for the best fix ...

sandblast-epoxy primer-surface(build)primer-paint not the cheapest way but the best

for the "fix her now until i can do it right" type of job...

sandblast-red oxide primer(spray can)-and paint(spray can) will give u the best bang for the bucks

but remember that sandblasting is the key to keeping rust away

That red oxide primer, where do I find that? Home depot, walmart or any auto parts store? Oh yes and thanks.
