Sorry if I didn’t see the thread if there is one and I’m an enthusiast and by no way a manchanic (female).
Any suggestions on how to eliminate the play, both are all over the road.
Thanks in advance .

You'll have people much more knowledgeable than me give you better details, but it could be the steering box, the rag joint in the steering shaft, or old bushings that need to be replaced.

If you can safely get the front wheels off the ground and on jack stands and then have someone move the steering wheel left to right you can see where there is play. You can also look for worn out rubber parts and replace any of those. Beside that unevenly worn tires could also cause issues.

I should of mentioned that both are at our local tire shop that specializes in high end vehicles.
Just put new wheels and tires on the 71, still a mess. We are installing a Pitman arm, keeping fingers crossed.

Most of what I've read is that if you're using dual steering stabilizer is that it's unnecessary or just hiding other issues. Especially on stock setups.

Steering stabilizers are a bandage fix. Address the underlying issue first and then after that you can add a stabilizer to take away all the small slop, if that makes sense.
Try checking some of the things I mentioned in this post from not long ago:

First things first... make sure all your leaf spring bushings are good, hardware is tight to include the u-bolts, tie rod ends are tight. If all that looks good then make sure the alignment is dialed. I have good luck with 1/16" of toe in and at least 8° of negative caster. You can purchase degree shims to adjust the caster if need be.
