Iam looking to order a suspension lift this week for my 1986 k5. I want an 8" with a possible zero rate.
What is a good lift to go with? I know I will only get so much of a good ride.
Also would it be better to go with 9" total and can I run 38" with that? or stick with 8" and 36" tires. I really don't want to cut my fenders. I am also thinking in the future my 16 year old will be driving this some and I don't want to make it to tall for him (you know how teenagers are)..Thanks

Teenagers can jump fine....

My vote is for custom springs as you will get the best ride.

Also you should do a 4" lift spring in back with a 4" shackle flip. Much better ride

What tires you thinking about? 8" is alot. My wife thinks so ba domp bump

Looking at irok radials. would like 38 I have 4:56 gears.

I talked to off road designs she told me that they use superlift springs?

Never heard of that?

The custom springs they do are made from alcan but designed by ord. I just got a set

Lots of ways you can get 8" of lift out of leafs.

Custom is one way. KidJethro got 8" deavers for his dually I think.

You can do a b-52 kit and get 4" rear springs. I have seen this done and it works pretty well overall ( this is rear lift springs used up front)

You could combine a 6" tuff country ez ride spring with a ez inch or zero rate plus a bit longer shackles that will give you 8" total lift.

In any case 8" and you are getting into a whole can o worms just so you know, driveshafts will need to be extended, brake lines extended, you may find yourself hating stock style steering so some sort of crossover steering might be in order. Extra strain on your steering box. Lots of stuff.

Don't let me discourage you, just trying to point out things that a whole lotta people don't realize

I talked with ORD this week alot. Im on a budget and just bought an 86 blazer. Im willing to trim the fenders (I'm using it for off-road so looks arent #1 in mind). I wanted to clear 37x12.50x15 irok radials as well. What Chris told me was this: new 4" springs up front. 4" shackle flip in the rear. I had to double check with him that it would cleara 37's, he assured me it would. Only other required parts are steering correcting, new ubolts, and new shocks. Lower center of gravity and you dont have to worry about lengthening your driveshafts. thats def the way im headed

I'm running 4" lift with 37s and a rear dbl CV drive shaft was needed...

I stand corrected! Im pretty green, definitely not an expert, just going off what others have told me. What else did you have to worry about with the 4" lift?

Nothing else out of the ordinary. Brakelines, shocks, steering arm, etc.

Time to add my 2 cents.

I'm in the middle of a 1 ton axle swap and lifting my K10 a total of 9". Everything was ordered from ORD, and I spoke with Chris quite a bit. I did a shackle flip out back and used the 4" springs. But up front, a set of superlift 8" lift springs was the only choice for a lift that tall, and thus this is what ORD supplies if you want to go that route. The other 1" comes from the ORD body lift parts.

I'm going to run 38's too, and I suspect that the first time I get off road and flex the suspension it will rub. Chris warned me that I won't be able to get away without fender trimming if I want no contact for sure.

Are you gonna buy crossover steer too?

Edit:

BTW - this is good advice.. There's a whole can of worms to respect when you're gonna do that much lift. I spent tons of time just reading all the info here before I jumped in and started buying parts.

Originally I was wanting to run 38 I think I have talked myself into running 36", However I want to run a 13.50 Or a 14.50 tire I like a little wider look on my stance I figured with 8 inches I would have Mcclerge issues at all if I can get by with 6 inches I am okay with that?
