for all of you coil guys out there. I am looking at some variable rate coils for the front of my truck. I am wondering how the rates work. Ive read all the stuff on pirate4x4 about the primary rate and the secondary rate, but I am having a hard time understanding it.
Through engineering school, ive learned about the primary rate business and that eventually the "lighter" coils will compress and leave you with the main spring rate, but this relationship must be a function of compression right? if you have a 250/450 spring, the primary rate will be 160 and the main rate will be 450, but how do you know what it will be inbetween? if you compress the spring 1 inch, wont the rate change to something between 160 and 450? I would assume that this depends on how long each section of the spring is?

Also, does anyone know a rough unsprung weight for the front and rear of a 1st gen?

Have you downloaded the BillaVista Coilover Bible yet?

Odds are good that you will learn every you need to know from that....also I know there is an Excel calculator available that will let you plug in values for the upper and lower springs and it will automatically give you the springs rates as the suspension cycles.
