Easy question for you guys.

Rust on undercarriage and suspension parts.

Can I spray everything with 5-56 oil penetrating lubricant. Dissolves rust. Lubricates. Protects.

Is there anything that can't be sprayed?

Would you guys remove the rusty surface after the oil dissolves it or leave it be?

What rust?? That is cleaner than my 08 tundra. I never ran it, but heard good things bout fluid film. Ex bro inlaw uses it, and swears by it. I might try that if I can find it, if not get some oil and acetone and go to town....

It had professional undercoating but it was 10 years ago. I just want to coat everything I can with the oil to dissolve rust and protect. I know it's not so bad.

I would assume if it’s an oil, that it doesn’t actually dissolve rust. It may coat it and keep it from getting worse, but that’s it. There are rust converters that supposedly convert rust to a more stable compound, but they don’t dissolve it. Only thing that actually dissolves it is acid or specialty chemical, but those need to be covered over with something to protect the metal after it’s cleaned.

What do you think about VHT-SP229 and then a wire wheel to strip it away to bare metal. Spray can rust inhibitor primer and then a rust resistant spray paint?

I’m using cosmoline for my build. I would recommend you do the same. Rp342 in a can works great or get a 5 gallon jug for all your vehicles. https://www.cosmolinedirect.com/mil...MIs9vr0_fO5QIVrP7jBx2W-ANvEAsYAyABEgI3cvD_BwE

Thanks for that link. I am an American and I live in Sweden. Might be hard to source that over here. Looks like a super heavy duty grease basically. I read the description and it said before applying the surface should be rust free. So I am still going to have to use a rust converter and wire wheel. I guess the question would be grease on the metal or paint.

Just use your search engine and I’m sure they have it in you country.

It's really hit and miss with American products over here. I basically need a rust converter, and a wire wheel. Then wipe it clean and spray a primer. Then use a spray type paint or a paint brush to cover it.

If you can get phosphoric acid there you can convert it yourself. The phosphoric acid will turn the rust into black phosphate which is neutralized rust. Then spray a cosmoline product over it.

Try eBay.

I just checked. Neither product available here.
Try evaporust, it actually removes rust and gives you clean metal no need to wire wheel after.
I know you can get it on Amazon but not sure if you can get it to Sweden

I can second that. The evaporust does a decent job, I used in my build thread on a couple spots on the windshield frame. Works better if you can submerge it in the stuff though.

I would wire-wheel any rust you can get to, rust convert anything you can’t get to, then a good primer and durable paint. Then spray oil or whatever grease on it if that’s your thing.

“ cosmoline” it’s like a wax. Spray it on and it will protect the undercarriage after you knock the rust and paint it. Works great. Used on military applications.

no help on the rust, your truck does not look all rusty. But it looks to me that your tire may be over inflated.
