New member. Recently bought a 3/4 ton 87 burb 4X4. 350tbi to a 400/208 with a 44 front and 14 bolt semie float rear. Body in bad shape. I then found a 3/4 ton 88 burb 2wd with a 454tbi and 14 bolt full float rear. 88 was garaged kept with 52000 miles. Has any one built a 4wd out of a 2wd? Or would it be easier to just switch the cabs? Anyone tried this conversion?

Both have been and are always being done.
People that have a clean 2wd will most of the times work on it and make it a 4wd.
People like you that have access to both, will most of the times transer a body on the 4wd frame.
It's your choice but if all you want is a 4wd not a heavily modified crawler then switch the body and whatever running gear you want in the 4wd frame.
You could also swap the hangers from the 4wd frame for a faster way since you have both

I would swap the body over if it were me. I'm sure you will have people argue both ways, but if you have access to the tools and manpower or a lift to make it easier, i would just swap the body on to the 4x4 frame.

I have done the body swap rough on a burb before. My dads 77 4wd suburban now sports a 81 2wd body. You have to use a 2" body lift cause the tranny tunnel is lower on the 2wd body due to no tcase. Or you could cut the tunnels out from both bodies and swap the tunnels over. I did the body lift route. If your interested in seeing pics, click the link in my sig to my webshots. There are 3 photo albums worth of the swap. I did this swap in a matter of 2 weekends.

I'm in the beginning phases of the same swap, been thinking about it for awhile and I'm gonna swap my 2wd good body onto my 4wd frame like everyone else said. Tazz thanks for the link to your build the 2" body lift really solved my problem about cutting the old tunnel out, appreciate that!

preciate the feedback. I heard the 2wd cab to the 4wd frame is the best option. Did not know about the 2in bod lift to clear the tranny.

thanks
