okay i have a chance at a 91ish chev 1ton or 11/4ton. it has a 6.5 turbo with mechanical injection, and what i orignally thought would be a 4-speed but it has LO 2 OD
1 3 R
would this be the NV4500?? and what transfer case is behind it?
it's a dually with a blown apart pinion on the 14bff, probably a clutch, hasn't ran in a year. still turns over but not fast enough to start. so not sure how well it runs, 320,000 KM on it. i can pick up the whole truck for around $600.

is it possible to put this in my 83 K5?
how much trouble would i run into? what would be involved?
also what transfer case can i swap onto this tranny? I have a 203 on a th350, a 208 on a th350, a 205 on a sm465, and 3 other 203 boat anchors.one with a part time kit.

What would you guys do?
 
okay from all the reading i just did, it should be a NV4500 with a 241.

some posts i found said my 208 from th350 will fit, some say it won't????

would this truck have mechanical or electrical speedo?

talked to the owner, it's a 92.

the motor mounts should work without a problem.

the more i sit here the more i wanna swap this in, but the transfer case is bugging me.

any advice would be great.
 
'92 shouldn't have a turbo 6.5L. Think it would either be a NA 6.5L or a turbo'd 6.2L. Someone could have swapped it in though.

Should be an electronic speedo. My '92 (and I believe all after '89) was electronic.

DRW t-case should be a Borg and Warner. You could make just about any of those t-cases work but I can't tell you which would bolt on or what would need to be done.
 
okay, so it is a 6.5 turbo with mechanical injection. truck vin confirmed the 6.5, it is the borg warner and have solved that. I worked out a deal with the owner of the local 4X4 shop (real shop, not a tuner shop) he is swapping out the input on my 208 so it will work and I'm giving him the borg warner. (works out for both of us)

now is there any threads off 6.5 swap into our trucks? i haven't had any luck searching.
would the info from 6.2 swap be near the same considering it's mechanical injection.

also is $600 a reasonable price for a set of reman 6.5. heads, with new injectors and plugs and 10-15 thousand KM on them, and a block in good shape with around 200km on it?

could a mod moves this to diesel for me? thanks.
 
i would jump on this, that engine, trans and t case would make a sweet drivetrain for a weekend wheeler/DD.

That would be the original motor, the 6.5 turbo and the NV4500 debuted together for the late 92 model year. Great drivetrain, get a written "crack-free block" warranty if you're paying much for the truck, and yes, that swap has been done into our trucks more than once. Check out my sig :D. If you don't have A/C in your truck, the hardest part is making the downpipe off the turbo work. With A/C, considerable creativity is required to make the turbo clear the HVAC box. Everyone's solution is different, I'd be happy to send pictures of mine if/when you need them. Good luck, and happy wrenching :eek1:
 
no i'm not paying a much for the truck $600 for it, and he's also got a set of remaned heads with new injectors and glow plugs plus another block thats in good shape that i can buy for another $600.
no my truck has no air conditioning so that won't be a problem for me, and yeah looking at the exhaust it will be a bit of a problem but oh well i can deal with that.

hey yeah any pictures you have would be awesome i would love to see them.

P.S. i forgot to mention i think the seller is throwing in some extra stuff like another alternator and idler pulley, a turbo and not sure what else a serpentine belt etc...
