swapped in a 4l80e into my 88

Yea, I'm interested on changing to an 4-speed auto someday in my 75' So what changes where made to accomidate[t-case,convertor,crossmember,etc] and pics please.

I originally had the 700r4 in this truck it went out after a 60mile road trip home. I had a th400 np208 combo from a previous parts truck which i dropped right in and ran for about 14k with the original cross member. The 32 spline np208 from behind the th400 bolted right to the adapter on this 95' 4L80E I used a precision industries rv tq convertor the original crossmember and driveshafts. The crossmember had to be spaced back 1.5" and redrilled and the linkage from the factory shifter had to be moved back on the frame as well as the t-case shifter being lengthened and the tortion rod from bellhousing to t-case lengthened. Pics to come soon. I got the tranny for $100 bucks at a local junkyard ran it as is...the controller and programmer were $1100 (a deal) and the tq converter was almost $400. I had the programmer reflashed to have the updated software for my diesel setup when I swap it in. :D Not a cheap swap and i am lucky with a decent junkyard transmission but being able to control the transmission as much as i can i can really dial in where and how it shifts for optimal on the fly performance. Before the swap i was getting 13.5mpg city/hwy I bet i get 3mpg gain just with OD and lockup in 3 and 4th gear. If I do get a 3mpg gain within 16000miles i should recoup my cost so a little less than a year for me and the more gas goes up the quicker the return.

Thanks for the info as I just picked up a 2wd 91 ¾ ton suburban with a 454 which just happens to have a 4l80e behind it. Now I just need to pull it and see if I have the right transfer case adapter for it and put in my other 4x4 suburban.

later
Trey
