Has anyone ever swapped in a 5 spd manul tranny out of saya 88-94 chevy truck? I know the bellhousing should bolt right up, but are there any fitmant problems with the linkage, etc? I know it doesn't have the granny gear, nvg4500 yada yada yada. I don't want to spedn that munch money an it's going in my daily driver.

Can't rememeber which year, but sometime in the 90's they switched from external to internal slave cylinder. Avoid that like the plague, the hydraulic throwout bearing versions that is, I'm on my 4th one in my '97, I've tried OEM and aftermarket ones. They only seem to last 30-50k miles. Nothing like haveing to pull the trans just to change the slave cylinder.

Does anyone know how many splines the NV3500 has on it's output shaft? Can a guy bolt an NP241 up to it?

I wouldn't mind one of those 5 speeds in my K5 either...

I thought the NV4500s were the 32 spline setups, NV3500 is too?

That'd be sweet, cause I've got a pass side drop NP241 with a cable drive I could use...

All the manual tranny's after '80 were 32 spline. Probably still are.

If you decide to do this swap I would be interested in doing my truck as well. I live down the hill from you maybe we could link brains and figure it out together?

p.s. I still have your fence. My wife didn't know I was expecting someone and I didn't want the water outside to ruin the wood.

I'm with tRusty on the spline count. I have a NV 3500 in my 2 door tahoe that is being replaced with an NV 4500. The spline count on both is 32. The s truck versions are smaller though. My Tahoe is an external slave model. Not sure on the 3500's but the 4500 changed to the internal slave in 1996.

one big problem boys . the slave is pass side. you might run in to drive shaft to slave housing problems.

I'm doing some research on the swap. I'll let you know if I thinks it's doable and cheap :D I'll PM about the fence. Thanks.

I'm with ya!

My 96 has an NV3500, with a noisy second gear syncro. I'm thinking of dropping that tranny into the wheeler, and getting a freshly rebuilt one to put into the DD with a Vortec 5.7L...

Lemme know if you find anything interesting on the topic, and I'll do the same...
