ok my 86 has the sm465 in it and 21 years and 200k has treated it well, and i was thinking of giving it a break for awhile and sticking the nv4500 with 200 miles on it, that i got for free in it (sorry not trying to brag) but i was wondering before i pull the 465 is the 4500 longer? meaning am i gonna have to lengthen and shorten my driveshafts? and also its out of a 2002 1 ton chevy so will my bellhousing bolt up, and will the 208 bolt up? oh and the tranny is out of a 4x4 by the way. thanks for any help

If I recall, you should be able to use your 208 X-case, no problem.

The 4500 is going to be a bit longer.

I'm not sure if the LS style bell will work, I don't think it will. Regardless, it is an internal slave cyl setup, if the slave goes it will probably wipe out your clutch from oil contamination. Plus, you have to pull the trans to change it.

You have some other options for the bellhousing, Advance Adapters makes one, and the early GM apps (92-95ish) used a conventional bell w/ external slave, but again, I'm not sure about exhaust clearance.

A couple of guys on here have done the swap, I'm sure one of them will chime in. My 95 had a 4500, and I'd love to put one in my '80 someday, but I've never done the swap. There should be some swap info on the AA website, too.

I would do whatever it takes to put the 4500 in there, night and day compared to the 465.

The Advance Adapter's bellhousing is by far the best way to go about swapping an NV4500 in, works with your factory clutch stuff that way, no worrying about having the slave cylinder on the wrong side.

The Nv4500 is a couple of inches longer...you will need to shorten/lengthen your drivelines. I also highly recomend the aftermarket bell, mostly to get the slave on the drivers side and to get away from the internal slave. shifter hole will need to be moved about 5" rearward and the old hole patched a bit.

If it has the 6 hole adaptor pattern a 208 should bolt right up. You may need to slighly slot one hole though...the NV4500's 6 hole pattern is the mirror image of the 465's pattern and it's not quite symmetrical.
