Swapping axles...have a couple of ?\'s

I am swapping a d44/12b in for 10b/10b. Basically to get gears I want. Don't need to go 3/4ton for now. My question is, will I need to do anything to driveshafts or brakes when I do my swap? Current stuff is stock '85 K5... /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

Thanks in advance

Front is a straight swap. for the rear what is the 12 bolt out of? In the 85 your ebrake cables are different then if the 12 is an older model.

You need a conversion u-joint to go from 10 bolt shaft to 12 bolt pinion . Tim posted numbers in the part number post . If it is a 2wd truck 12 bolt , and you have a shackle flip , the drivers side shock mount will be low and you will have to remount or run that shock upside down . If it is a 4wd 12 bolt , just buy the u-joint and everything else is kosher . I left my brakes on the truck , undid backing plates and slid 10 bolt out , put in 12 bolt and backing plates bolted right up , and the lines went right in on the hold downs on the tubes too /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

What about the raised steering arm...will it swap from the 10b to the d44????

same arm.

on the rear being from the 70's you will need the conversion u joint and to either swap ebrake brackets and cables or just retain the 10 bolt backing plates as stated up above.
