Sorry for the ignorance but i have a general question about swapping axles.
I was looking into getting a 14 bolt and a d60 axles. I have a few friends who own junkyards and i was wondering what would be the best years (from 1 ton trucks) to get the axles off of. Also how much modification is needed to get a set of these axles to fit. Also what in addition to the axles should i remove and take for my swap.
Thanks

After 1980 the shafts on the front 60 will not be necked down. After the redesign of the 14 bolt in '88 or so they had more webbing and you could remove the drum/rotors without disassembling the hub (i.e. the later 1 ton trucks are slightly more desirable). The pad width should be the same, the only thing you have to change there is the shock mounts on the 14 bolt (they hang way down anyway). Take the u-bolts/studs and the plate on top that the u-bolts run through.

I think for the D60 a 73+ will work (I not sure just what I've read, because I can't find a D60 in SC) and a 14bolt from a 3/4 ton K20/2500 will be a direct bolt in. The 14bolts from 1tons have the spring perches and shock mounts in different locations because of the frame width differences. They will have to be moved if you get one of these. Its good to get the driveshafts from the donor vehicles also. But you'll more than likely have to have them lengthen or shorten depending on the rest of your drivetrain. Oh yeah and some 8 lug rims. Most like the 15" wheels because of the tire size variety but you have to get the right back spacing and do some calliper grinding. I think its easier to just buy 16.5s. Just my .02. :xmas:

dont buy a dana 60 from a one ton , they have a completly diffrent setup as far as hubs , rotors and such , very expensive to change. the fourteen bolt as long as you get a 10.5 95% of the time swap directly in , youll have to get a set of spring plates and u bolts for the rear.

 Dana 60's only came in 1 tons they are a direct bolt in for a K5. Any 14B semi of full floating from a 3/4 ton is a direct bolt in minus the u-joint. 1 Ton 14Bolts simply need the perches and shock mounts moved.:D

Do you mean from a dually?(You can run offset Hummer rims with it). Because there is no need to change hubs on a sw 1ton. Like on 3+3 crewcabs and military or state trucks.

Can you use the same steering box if you don't do crossover? I know you need a 2wd box/ shaft for crossover.
