swapping front carrier with rear van unit

I've got a 86 k5 with a open front diff.I am planning on scrapping my old 81 Chevy van.The van has a GM limited slip carrier.Question being can the carrier be installed in the k5.The center case from the outside look the same.Straight swap or major re-engineer.Thanx.

If the rear is a 10 bolt, then it should go in. Being an 81, it could be a 12 bolt. 10 bolt cover is almost perfectly round, while the 12 bolt isn't, can't remember what they look like.....

if its not a limited slip but a gov bom then dont wast your time.
