If it's built to go fast, I'd definitely recommend the longer radius arms for a better ride. If you're gonna play on the rocks, I'd stick with the wristed arm for better clearance. The longer the truck and bigger the tire, the less of an issue the arm length becomes.
I have seen longer arms do just fine in the rocks, I have seen in person the wristed arm do just the same. If you look at James Duffs design semi copied from Jim Cole, you will notice the frame end is or was a rod end that is pretty tight to the frame. Yes you can drag the lower part of the arms over rocks, same can be said for four links. Another thing to look at is the coil spring, I ran wild horse rock crawlers coils they stretched good
Cons to long arms- long arms can be ground clearance
Pros- performs equal to wristed arms, offers better handling in higher speeds, can go from the rocks to the highway (no pin)
Wristed cons- can twist the housing, can bend the arm on the drivers side due to unequal leverage, have to put a fricken pin in to be street able (pain in the mud)
Pros- Cheap fix for the lack luster performance of the ford front end, cheap to do, and they do flex good.
