I have a 700r4 in my 1987 Suburban, so I already know I'll have to have a chip made or whatever. What I'd like to find out are the details of the physical fit so I can get started on at least getting the motor into the truck so I can sell off the 350.

I did some searching and found a lot of old threads. From what I have read, it looks like it will install in the same location using the same mounts and attach to the 700r4 without relocating the trans on the crossmember? This is just a stock motor with almost 90k that I am swapping in, so strength issues and breaking parts isn;t really a concern at this time.

The mounts do not need to be changed however you could have oil pan clearance issues at the crossmember depending on the depth of the oil pan. There are several different stock pans so just watch for that and you will be good if it clears.

You will need to modify the 454 TBI unit to accept the TV cable for the 700R4. I simply ground down the throttle shaft where it goes through the linkage bracket on both the 350 and 454 TBI units then i swapped the 350 linkage bracket onto the 454 TBI and tack welded it on.

The 454 is complete with all accessories, peripherals, and brackets, but it is from a 1987 2wd Suburban (so I'll look into the pan/crossmemebr issue). Only things it is missing are the exhaust manifolds because the headers that were in the donor were not in good shape in the lower areas. I shouldn't need to mess with the accessory drive system at all.

I've read and subscribed to a couple threads that discussed adapting the linkage bracket. Doesn't sound like much trouble to do and I have a spare 350 from a K10 that still has all that, so I can knock it out ahead of time (or have two chances to get it right, depending how you look at it).

Thanks for the info on the mounts. Think I'm going to do the core support swap at the same time. The motor donor's nose was in much better shape than mine. I have no shroud and the radiator is all zip-tied in. :doah:
