having broken a bolt in the yoke on the 8.5" 10 bolt in my C1500, i have another that i'd like to replace it with. if i remove the yoke, is it possible to reinstall the new one without having to pull the rear apart and replace the crush sleeve?

Sure is. I'd mark the nut and the pinion, remove and replace the yoke, install the nut so the dots line up and then maybe an extra 1/6 of a turn.

The wear in the bearings will probably require a little more crush on the sleeve anyway.

just make sure you check the preload before taking it apart and make sure you get the same readihng afterwards, you also might want to check the pattern just to be safe

honestly, if the gears blow up a couple months down the road, i dont care. by spring this thing wont even be on this chassis anymore.

You always replace the seal because You are pretty much guaranteed to ruin it as you pull the yoke out. It's like replacing the throw out bearing when You do a clutch, they go hand in hand.
