I'm installing a 4" lift on my 86' Suburban. I just finished with the rear.:D Now it's onto the front spring swap. What's the deal with the sway bar? I know that a sway bar disconnect kit (or lowering kit)is available but, do I really need a sway bar at all? Can I simply disconnect the thing and be done? Thanks for your help!

That's exactly what I needed to hear. I know if you leave the sway bar on, it will most likely get damaged or bent in it's stock location. Well, I'm starting the front springs tonight after work. Rancho springs with Energy Suspension Poly Urethane bushings. Thanks for your input. Greatly appreciated.

if you are towing i might try and keep it but not needed. if you are not and plan to wheel it off road ditch it it will flex out way better and ride nicer also.

I don't plan on towing anything big in the near future. I have my little 4x8 trailer that I use for hauling junk to the local dump yard but that's nothing compared to towing a vehicle or something bigger. I'll be keeping the sway bar in case I do plan on towing. I definetly plan on wheeling it in three weeks. Lots to do...

Thanks!

i put the disconnect kit on my 90 blazer. i drove it around for a few weeks off and loved it... minus once or twice on the freeway wen i got a crazy wobble cuz im so top heavy.... but i still have it off... it makes it feel like i have and actual SUSPENSION on my truck =] and the wheeling difference is incredible :D

Im with everyone above. I personally have a 78 suburban with 4" ranchos and Its just fine on the road and really not bad threw any corners. Keep it around just incase but you should be fine. Also It is fine to run the sway bar without lowering it or anything with a 4" lift.

Well, I finished the lift last weekend. Yeah, it feels good. You can definetly feel the suspension. Although, I have not yet taken it on the highway. A couple more test drives. Re-torque some of the hardware and I'm good.

I'm going wheelin' this weekend. I just hope my brake lines arrive by tomorrow. I had my friend drive my truck down a curb as I watched and the brake lines don't stretch but they obviously are at the end of their travel. I won't even go offroad unless I can have some fun. Nobody want to baby their vehicle in fear of snapping a brake line hose.

I'll post pics of the lift soon. Thanks everyone.

Brakelines should be included in every lift kit sold! Steering corrections too unless of course you enjoy limited steering ability.
