No way that's a long bed... that's been chopped and bobbed for sure.

I ment it used to be one, then he put the crewcab on and cut the bed. I went out to mine, and measured what a crew cab would look like. It came out to looking like that.

if IIRC that was a regular cab shortbed that he put a Crew Cab on and had to notch the back of the cab to clear the tires at full stuff

subscribed....i just bought a R20 cc and plan on converting it to swb and i'm curious about it, measurements and such...i also plan on converting it to 4x...w/12'' lift, so i think i can just move the spring hangers and chop off the back...w/that much lift i shouldn't have to worry about the frame humping up, there should be plenty clearance...if i have to cut behind the cab, i've done that before, but it was a cc carhauler that i cut a section out so it would fit a reg cab and it bolted on when i was done, i've also built a trazer and used the k5 frame,350/465/205 and k20 sheetmetal & axles, i shortened the lwb bed upfront w/sawzall and tiged it back together and just left the rear overhang, iirc some1 on here is building a swb cc and said a reg cab lwb frame is right for the cc & swb bed. as far as going 4x i hope diy4x bumper center w/rad support and front spring hanger built together will simplify that task.

az-k5 & his dad did a CC SWB. They cut the frame infront of the rear springs and sectioned out a piece of frame. They then welded & fish plated it back together and put a shortbed on it.

Here is a pic.

This truck makes me understand why someone would want to put a shortbox on a 3 + 3. Nice end result. I'd like to know more about this truck and what frame he used. I'd also like to know how these behomoths are getting powered around.

the next truck i do is going to be a crew cab on a suburban frame... nice wheelbase, and i'm not worried about the real length of the bed... though, reading the 3 pages, it seems like guys are cutting up the CC frames to make factory appearing short beds...

Here is all the info on it from this thread. http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141225

Started life as a 1975 1 ton, crew cab, dually, toolbox, work truck with a 350-TH400-NP205. Well it isn't anymore. It is emission exempt in AZ.
Front clip and doors (all power locks and windows) are off of a clean 1987 suburban.
Bed is off of a 1978 short bed pickup. 16" of frame was removed from the middle, and 8" off of the rear to acomodate the short bed.

i like that heater

i like that heater:waytogo:, is that a factory gm unit for cc? i have a buddy who has a factory rear heater for his '90 sub, its not in the rig yet, but its still in the factory box & trim the heater core is in, and it stands up from floor to just under the 1/4 window, so i dont think its like the 1 in this pic...

i would like 1 of these for my (new to me)cc and another 1 that is low profile like the 1 shown, to put in the rear of my 96 tahoe, maybe a rear heat from a 92-99 suburban would be a better choice for my tahoe, then it would look like factory installation(especially if i find a tan one). do the rear heaters just use a long run of regular heater hose, run inside the frame from engine bay to the rear heater core?

be nice to have 1 like in the pic under my k5 seat pointed to the rear, the regular dash heat takes forever to heat the k5, and if its really cold the dash heater never seems to warm the rear of the k5.

My K30 crew cab SRW has a utility bed and I love it, mine is short enough that I could still put a gooseneck ball in and pull a trailer. Infact, the PO of my rig was a camper and pulled a 5th wheel RV trailer with it, and kept his camping gear in the 'ute bed.

So when you gonna pull that fuel pig 454 and drop a real truck engine in ??????? (Cummins) :haha:

swb crew cab

I have an 89 v3500 crew cab that started out as a dually long bed i cut 14 inches out of it right behind the cab and trimmed a little off the rear of the frame and a short bed will drop right on.The factory long bed tanks wont fit you will need short bed tanks or something else i bolted mine together with grade 8 bolts reinforced with 1/4 inch plates and its fully welded. The drive line was shortened to match it now has 12 inches of lift oru crossover steering dana 60 front 14 bolt ff gov loc rear single wheel axles and 4:10 gears 40 inch mt baja radials and tbi 454 /th400/np205 and i love it.
