Guy I know blew his tranny and in CA diesel=no smog wants to dump this thing for near free but wont tell a price. Semms like a lot of hasle to swap everything out of my K-10 but it wont pass cali emissions. What should I do.

boils down to the same issue that always comes up with a 6.2L diesel swap. hp vs torque.

I say do it. im a huge fan of my 6.2L diesel, but i dont mud bog, or sand drag, or any of those other events where a 496 big blocks rule. I drive my 5200lbs truck like its a 5200lbs truck. A cruise in the slow lane, i accellerate as fast as i want to without causing a traffic jam, and even with 3.08 gears ive never had to stress about merging into high speed traffic from an onramp.

Getting 22mpg out of my rig is also nice. and the torque when offroading is darned impressive to me. I can normally make it anywhere ive tried to go in 4 hi, and in 4 lo it will climb trees. am i still planning a turbo install, absolutely, but thats simply a "want" in the same category as my 1 ton axles and NV4500 swap. as it is right now it certainly covers my truck needs.

I think if you were replacing a stock, or mild 350 with a 6.2l diesel, you would be very pleased with the result. if youve got a high performance mill, youre gonna suffer from slug syndrome.

Nah you don't want that..... Tell him to get a hold of me though. Since I am such a nice guy I will take it off of his hands so he doesn't have to worry about towing it to the junkyard...

What's going to happen with the new diesel smog laws that are coming? Will there be rules for the older rigs too? I've heard a billion different stories so if you're serious about it I'd do some research first. It'd be a pain to do it then a year or two down the road have to start smogging it.

It is my understanding that any diesel older than a certain year (1998 i think???) will be grandfathered in and will have no smog rules.

Edit - it is 1998 and newer diesels that will be tested. Here is a pdf of the law. http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/80_BARResources/05_Legislative/RegulatoryActions/ab1488.pdf

yeah actually if i get the truck ill give the tired ass gutless ass 6.2 to someone who can use it i will be swapping all the stuff out of and off of my k-10 into it or ....
my after thought of the day was i know where there is anothjer blazer with 350/465/208 i could swap that in in place of the 700r/208 thats in the 6.2 and lift that bitch and sell it to someone and use the profit for my build maybe 60 and 4-speed in my truck

man cali sucks for all this mess.. out here theres nothing for diesels. my last 3 trucks were diesels but with gas engines and it gets you out of having cats and emissions
