Whats all involved in converting a synchro 205 over to the non-synchro?

Got a customer with an '83 K3500 behind a 465 and wants to swap in a 400 so I mentioned swapping the synchro out.

Details?

fast easy is swap whole guts pack with shaft from a non syncro to it . and back plate and shift fork.

never done one but what i have read.

On the front output you've got to swap everything from the shift fork down. Watch the gears, iirc, they are different widths.

It's every single part related to the front output (gears, front output, rear bearing retainer, front shift rail, shift fork, clutch ring, etc) and even the idler gear is different.

You basically need another 205 for parts.

To use 1350 or 1410 yokes.
couldnt you just get a yolk made that accepts that size ujoint?or is the sycro that much different than the non?price may be a issue.dont know what that would cost.sounds like you would be better off just getting a non syncro transfer case to begin with.

True but its here and its all the customer has. Wouldn't be any different than if you were rebuilding a motor and swapping new parts into it like stroker cranks, rods, pistons, etc. That and the customer wants new shift rails for twin sticks. May as well dig into the whole thing and rebuild it.

Oh yeah, I don't know of anyone who makes or custom fabs yokes to fit the different spline counts.

yeah thats what i was sayin on price.and a good machine shop to make the yolk probly wouldnt be cheap.if you already gota modify the case to begin with, may as well just do it all.could use flanges, but then gota do new driveshafts as well.flange would be easier than a yolk to make and maybe high angle would have something off the shelf.just a couple ideas but you got more skill and knowlege than I.you can use tthe ck5 discount as well on some of the stuff.

all that work and money when you just swap out guts with cheep a$$ 10 spline 205 case for parts . then drop in a ford / or divorced tcase 32 spline front shaft and use off the shelf parts.
