I bought a 205 off of craigslist a few years ago and finally got the money to do a doubler. I gutted the 205 because i have to swap my round pattern case for the figure 8 and found that its syncronized. My question is are there any inherent weaknesses to a synco style np205 vs a regular 205? I have also seen a few posts on here stating that 32 spline inputs dont swap in but this is already a 32 spline input ill be swapping long for short 32 and problems there.

The front output, front low/high gears, shift rails, rear bearing retainer for the front output, and the idler gear are all special to the synchronized 205.

Basically everything but the input and rear output assembly and the case.

If you keep what you have, you're stuck with a 30 spline front output and a flat flange on the front which is really pretty stout. Not the ultimate, but 30 spline front outputs aren't easy to break.

To upgrade, you need to find another 205.

That was just the info I was looking for. Not what I was hoping to hear for my matching drive shafts plan but I do have another 205 I can salvage parts from. If the rails and forks are different am I going to have issues with the shift rails when modifying them for twin stick operation?

The factory flat flange on any of the 30 spline front outputs will match a CV flange for the rear output and let you use the same driveshaft front and rear. They have to be CV jointed but in a K5 they probably should be anyway. I guess you could use companion flange connection and a regular ujoint but CV is the way.
