Which nano fiber filter are you referring to? Most oil filters are only rated to a nominal 20-25 microns, aka, "the full flow filters". I think the K&N have a rating of 10 microns. Most so called experts believe wear is most likely in the 3-5 micron range.

That aside, if you run a good bypass (gulfcost, amzoil, etc), then you can remove those particles as well as smaller.

Keep in mind however, no filter will remove fuel contamination.

You are exactly correct, I use Amsoil filters which are all nano fiber and Donoldson Endurance line. The Nano material actually is capable of holding more particles, it just has a higher storage capacity.

A bypass system is the way to go, like you mentioned, to really make an oil change last. If I had the Amsoil dual bypass I would probably got 30K on an oil change.

Amsoil may be able to go 100,000 miles between changes... that doesn't change the fact that if I don't change oil every 3000 miles Chevy probably will go tell me to "pound sand" when I go to get my blown engine warrantied and they find out I do 1 oil change per decade...

The'll still tell you to go pound sand. remember the 5.3 lifter tick?

besides which once your warranty is up, they could care less.

Toyota isnt any different- their 4 cyl's in the camry have oil starvation problems all the time- I know of one that had to be replaced, even though the vehicle was in warranty. Toyota refused to replace it, saying that it was because they didnt use an 'OEM" filter.

Most service manuals are allowing up to 7,500 miles on an oil change now without any problem on warranty work. Infact Dodge reccommends 7, 500 miles if you are towing constantly and making short trips, and up to 15K if you don't tow and drive long distances, with a Cummins Ram.

You wouldn't have a blown engine do to running a much higher grade of premium oil anyway....

You are stuck on the 3K thing, which is fine, there are still a few people that are used to the way you did things with older oils and engines. It can't hurt anything, just is expensive and time consuming.
