I have two 90 burbs. My built rig is a 2500 with a 350cid and th400 trans. The "new" one is a 1500 with a 350cid and 700r4 trans. I need to swap the tcases and need to k lnow if they are interchangeable. Everything I have found says that the 700r4 has a 27 spine input shaft and the th400 is a 32 spline...except in 1990, when only one option was available. Does this info sound right? I know it's as simple as dropping both cases and counting splines, but I would hate to drop them both if the 700r4 case will not work.

You could just swap the input if you found the second case doesn't work

No , lol it’s not right 27 and 32 spline cases were both available in 90 . Whoever is telling you otherwise is smoking crack

Both 90's should have 241 t-cases.

The only difference is the input shaft. They are interchangeable but it requires disassembly of both cases. Depending on the type of failure it may be better to just tear down the bad one and fix it...

Usually parts can be found fairly easily online or at places like Transtar.

The last line of transfer case specs says there is only on case available in 90.

If the shafts are simple to change, I have another good case in the shed I will use. Thanks guys and gals!

The NP205 was available in 90 and 91 , just not in blazers and burbs .

And to that end the only case available from 81-87 blazers and burbs was the np208 lol.

How’s the shop coming along?

Three sides are closed in. The damn door and front wall is going to be ten grand! It's going to have to wait. Come by and have a look.

I finally crawled under the burb and confirmed the problem. I had hit a rock and the Scid plate rubbed a small hole in the case. I cleaned it up and put a patch on it (this happen about 7 years ago and I made the same repair). Not ideal, but it will hold fluid for moose season.
