Does the t case fluid just lubricate like in a rear end . Or is it being pumped like a transmission?

Really. I thought it just sat in there and got flung around. Would low fluid cause a vibration? I just drained mine and maybe half a quart came out.

the oil pump pick-up is right by the drain plug. you can actually see it through the drain hole with the plug out. the 1/2 quart may have been enough to keep it alive. i don't know if low fluid would cause a vibration

i think the reason for the pump is the chain is not turning in the NP 241 unless the front end is engaged, so there would be nothing to splash the oil up to the top end in 2WD

the upside is the chain is not wearing unless you are in 4X4.

when i bought my Suburban, it had a leak in the case half seam, so i had to take it apart to fix the leak. the Sub had 60,000 miles on it and the chain/sprockets looked brand new. the pump is in the back 'half' of the case.

There is an oil pump on the later T-cases ,not sure which models ,but my brothers 2002 GMC 3/4 ton HD with an Alison and Duramax had its t-case start slinging oil out of the tailshaft housing,he had to replace it..Kennedy Diesel sells a repair kit to fix the case where the pump wears thru it you epoxy in place and to repair the oil pump, but he opted to buy the whole tailshaft instead..

Did you even say it is a 241? What case do you have? Maybe i missed it somewhere- 208 =no pump, only oil sloshing around as far as i know. NP241 has a pump... Ive had a 241 wirh a leaking front main seal- was slowly pumping atf forward into my transmission. No external leaks.
