Ok, I'm trying to ID my t-case and it's been 6 years since I've owned a GM.

I've got a th350 in my 72 4x K5. The transfer case is cast iron with aluminum covers.... is this a 205?

Also, that would mean it's got a chain, not all gears correct? What should I be running for lube? It's leaking dex3 from the speedo cable hole, which had me worried until I remembered that it's not a Toyota:doah:(I sold my 4th toy truck to get the K5)

Any help for the newbie would be appreciated:wink1:

203's are chain driven, 205's are gear driven, there should be a TAG plate on the tcase somewhere

cool, I'll crawl around and try to find it later.

any idea on the fluids? I would assume gear lube in the 205, and dex3 in the 203 because of the chain...

no no no on the dex3....203's get 30w motor oil only and your correct on the gear lube for the 205

Tag should be on backside of transfer case (towards rear driveshaft) blue and white in color, unless someone rebuilt it and didn't put it back on.

Probably a 205.

On the Left 203 on the right 205.

The rear of any 205 will have a silver dollar sized cover plate with 3 bolts holding it on, right in the middle. Thats the rear support for the idler.

203 has a whole range box hanging on the front.

I found a better shot on one of my other 205s, thats the small 3 bolt plate on the ass of every 205.

yup, it's a 205.
