T case problems

A buddy of mine has an 89 1500 4WD. When you engage the 4x4, and start take your foot off the brake, a clunking/grinding sound comes from the t case. I think its an NP241... but Im not sure. Thats just what I think I remeber seeing when i crawled under to check it out. What do you guys think the problem is?

thats the ifs right? id disconnect the front drive shaft and see if it still does it. if it does then its the tcase. if not its probly one of the shafts.

Yeah... IFS. It sucks. But good idea. Ill tell him to give that a try.

tell him to lift the truck on jack stands and try it and see if it grinds before he disconnects the drive shaft to see if it only happens under load
