T-case skid plate?

I just got my Doubler crossmamber made and getting ready to make the skid plate for it.

Would you build it into the Doubler crossmember or have it seperate from the Doubler crossmember? I can go both ways I did think it would be better to have it not attached so when I hit some rocks hard its only on the skid plate and not on the Doubler/skid plate.

What you all think?
 
I built my skidplate/xmember for my 208 in 2pc. The first piece is just a trans xmember that bolts to the frame and supports the transmission mount. The 2nd piece is a rear xmember/skidplate that is all one piece. The skidplate bolts to the trans xmember and is bolted to the frame at the back also. I did it this way so I could remove the skidplate and still have the trans xmember in place so I don't have to try to support the trans with a jack if I need to access the transfer case.

If you are gonna run 2 xmembers to support the doubler like is recommended then you can also build the 2 xmembers and bolt a skidplate to the bottom of them or do a bolted front and welded rear like mine. Some guys build it all as 1 pc which is an ok option too but I just like being able to pull the skidplate off and still have the trans/tcase combo supported.

aahh you beat me to it, but i added more wholes for the mud/water to come out. I was carrying 200 lbs of dirt around
 
That is in the plans currently. My old xmember had a water hole drilled in it but it was to small and would clog up. I am gonna take a hole saw and cut a few 3/4" holes in bottom of the skidder to get the water/mess out.

Just FYI the skidplate is supported on the topside. It is not just a piece of flat plate. It is welded to a 1/4" angle iron on the sides, has 1.5" .250 wall square tube as xmembers, and has another 1.5" square tube backbone on the topside to try and keep it from denting. The plate is 3/16" thick plate and I have put a shallow dent in the plate when it was taking all the weight of the truck when I was high centered and had to winch off a rock.
