I have what I believe to be a 1980 np203, my question is what is this part? I have never seen one before, looks like its set up for a cooler?

If you're talking about the threaded gizmo coming off the tailhousing, I'd say it's for the speedo cable. The little thing itself is a gearbox to provide adjustment for different tire sizes and gear ratios.

Are there electrical pins inside of the connector? Its hard to see from the pic.

That is a speedo correction box that your speedo cables hooks to. That style is non rebuildable (can't change gearing inside).

Fwiw, it's not an '80. in 1980, the 205 was the only transfer case used regardless of truck configuration.

Well, that is what I thought it was too at first. But if so, then what the heck is that speedometer cable for on the other side in the second picture?

Is this some kind of inbetween system with both a mechanical speed cable and an electronic speed sensor for the computer?

Or is the speedo cable just laying there and looks like its hooked up?

If you blow the pic up the cable does not appear to be connected to anything. The cable also is at about a 60-70° angle to the housing, if it were attached it would be at a 90° angle.
