So here is what I have:
79 GMC K3500 Crew Cab
350/SM465/NP205
and
87 V2500 Suburban
6.2/T400/NP208

I want:
79 GMC
6.2/T400/NP205

What do I need to do to adapt my 205 to the T400? I see Advanced Adapters has a fancy $600 kit but is that really the only way to do it? I see adapters for sale that indicate they are designed to adapt the T400 to the 205 but what else would I need? Will they bolt right up?

Brian

ok if i understand this you will need a 205 off a t400 32 sline I,m not sure about the adapter on the 208 some t400s had a fig 8 adapter some have a round one . if you where lucky a 205 mite bolt to the 208 adapter

You need a large bearing 32 spline input 205 and the correct length output shaft in your TH400 to make it work.
Your 205 has the 10 spline input.

And what you really want to know is the advanced adapters kit is If I remember correctly a Necked down output shaft for your TH400 to fit a 205 from a TH350 which IMO is a crap way to go. I might be able to get a hold of everything you need from a factory setup

What do you figure a "factory" setup would cost? That's definitely what I would prefer. I will take a couple photos and maybe I'll get lucky with the whole thing. Though that sounds unlikely.

I have the correct output shaft for your TH400, adapter and NP 205.
Shoot me a pm if interested.

The 85 and later round pattern 205 were the same on 465 and th400.
I have one from a 465 from an 89.
PM me and we can make a deal.

Isn't the output on the t400 to short because of the 208 that was behind it???
No, 85 and up GM got wise, they made one type of 205 that went behind everything they had, and the 465 32 spline was also the same for 208 and 205.
That is why the later model 400 is not the same as the older one with the figure 8 205.
:waytogo:

i think the easiest way would be to use the 87 th400 and the long input on the 205. then for $65 have the case bored for the bearing, and use the figure 8 th400/205 adapter.
