i never knew they came tachs

81 was the last year it was an option on the C/K line.:D

I have never seen a complete 81 set before and that one looks nice. I got mine from a 79 set and the gauges were pretty beat and I had to get the tack repaired but it works great now:D

I know in the 1987 wiring diagram it DOES show a tach option!! Spent darn near three months working on getting factory guages into mine. So I have studied the wiring Ds

It does show the option but the actual option for a tach was removed from the lineup in 81. I too have studied the drawings. I also learned that for my application it was a plug n play event.

Will fit any 73-87 full size gm truck.
I'm not so sure on this. I haven't had much luck swapping around gauge clusters because they were wired different.

I am not sure on the fitment for all the years either. I guess with a little work anything will fit. I know the wiring and the circuit board on the back is different between models and years, so how would that work?

This is what I had to do. I traced the circuit sheet on rear of gauges and then wrote what each contact went to. I then took the cluster plug and rearranged each pin so that it was the right spot. I had a 1989 Jimmy for donor so I had wire plug to compare also. Just had to add an extra ground wire and change out the sending units for oil and temp.

The problem I had was swapping the mechanical gauge clusters into the electric gauge cluster trucks. It would be difficult to just swap this sellers electric gauge cluster into an older truck that had a mechanical gauge. I think a lot of the wiring changed around '80 or '81 also.

Maybe we could try to guess what it would sell for? I'm guessing around $225.

Mine was all electric but since I have an 87 I had to keep my 87 speedo for the VSS Signal. I took my 87 housing and cut the back of the large gas gauge area out so the tach would fit and then used the tach printed circuit and all of the pins in the connector lined right up and it bolted right in:D .

That link at the top shows a current auction....???

What I was refering to was the idiot lights to gauges. The tach install I didn't even try because I have no need for one.

they did put them in after 86

I have a tach cluster out of a 86 1-ton dually that had a 454/th400
that came factory, I got the truck from the orginal owner and he said it came that way, he did not add it, It pluged right in to my 79' K-5
