tach dash questions

You shouldn't have to switch any wires if you use the circuit board from the 78/79 tach dash. If you have the tach without the fuel gauge, you will have to use the small hole where your clock is now.

Use these guys for the overlay. All the gauges except the speedo's all have the same sweep as the 70s, so get overlays for an 80 model.

Has anyone used these overlays? how is the quality?

ok so my 85 has a factory clock in the small fuel gauge location so if i get the cluster out of an 78/79 and put my speedo in there with the small hole for the vss and switch a couple of wires ill be good to go? and my next ques is how do i make all the gauges look the same can i get a white face overlay kit for an 80s and stick it on there and everything read correct or what can i do thanks guys

If you have the factory clock, you also have a hole through the clear plastic lens for the clock adjustment knob to protrude through. You may want to find a lens that doesn't have that hole.

I installed a factory 70's tach and other instruments a couple of years ago in my 1986 Blazer. I've forgotten exactly how I did it, but IIRC I had to do some "surgery" to the 1986 cluster housing to make everything fit properly. I left the gauge faces alone, but I did get the correct paint to touch up all the faded gauge needles/pointers. I also rest the odometer to zero (which is a PITA to do).

The mileage on the other cluster wasn't the same, and since I'm not representing the displayed mileage to be correct, I believe it's perfectly legal. It Looks great.

well i read earlier in the post i can just put my speedo in the 78/79 cluster and that will work that was the route i was thinkn of going or will that not work only reason im asking is because im not sure how the fuel gauge would world would i have to hard wire it then or ??

My memory sucks!

I went back and looked at some pictures I took. I used the gauges, the cluster and the printed circuit from the '70's cluster. I do remember doing some surgery on the cluster housing. What I may have done was use the '86 speedometer mechanism (and VSS) but used the '70's speedo face.

I apologize for not remembering how exactly I did it. I did come out very nicely!
