Do I need a special wiring harness to go from a non-tach dash cluster to a tach or is the wiring already there for it? Can anyone help with info about installing a tach in an '88 K5 that didn't come with one? Thanks!

The tach has a stand alone harness with a resistor in it.

The printed circuit on the back side of the cluster is different because the gas gauge is relocated.

It's certainly do-able but it's not plug and play. Also, the font can be different depending on the gauge year. The font style that matches your 88 is very rare.

The above is related to factory techs, not aftermarket.

nvrenuf, thanks for the information. I'm totally clueless about this stuff (as you can tell.) Just wanted to educate myself before jumping into a tach setup. I have a habit of getting in over my head by not "looking before I leap!" Thanks again!

I think some of the tach stuff is available via LMC but I have no idea about the quality.

In reality, it's not something I actually need anyway. I just get the bug to upgrade when I should be saving all the money I can instead. It's an addiction.

The one I was looking at is for sale here on the board but it has a fuel gauge at the bottom of the tach and a vacuum gauge where your gas gauge is(I think). Never saw one like that before.Guess there's a lot of things I need to do before taking on a new project anyway. Your setup looks great BTW!

ETA: The unit I was looking at is on the GMSquarebody forum, not CK5.

ETA: Guess this unit is also on '67-'72 ChevyTrucks.com as well.

The unit listed for sale on the other forum has the gas gauge located at the bottom of the tach. From what I can find that means the unit came out of a larger truck (not a regular pickup truck.) Also, seems to be for a '74-'75 only. Down the road, if funds permit, if I go to a tach unit I will go the LMC route too. Thanks for the input.
