Tach opinions

I would go with a connection to the coil instead of a clamp on a plug wire. Why bother with an inductive pickup, when you could have a direct connection?

A friend of mine has that tach and it works but its no quality but its hell light weight lol ummm i personally like to spend a bit more on a tach from a better brand but thats jsut me and we used the direct connection and that tach can change 3 different colors.

I can pick up a Autometer Lunar series for a $100 but I really don't need anything that big or a shift light.

If it's half decent accurate that probably good enough for me. I didn't notice that the one i posted had direct hookup as well that's good! This one is new off of Craigslist by the way.

Look at Summit or Jegs, Summitracing.com, jegs.com, they have lots of tachs, direct hook up is the best, find one in your buget that fits your needs and matches your dash. Personal experience, on the steering column with a hose clamp is not the best place to see it. I recommend mounting it on the dash so you can see it and where you are going at the same time. Example, your in a slick deep twisty mud hole, redlining the engine shifting gears with trees along the side, you aint got time to look down and focus on the tach when to shift, experience=bent push rods+broken valves from valve train float

O'reilly's sell these gauges. I think they are cheaper there than online. I have the black tach and the fuel and volt gauge. I like them.

IMO---Huge difference in quality from O Reilly Autogauge than AutoMeter. AutoMeter will last forever, the Autogauges are good but last about a year, and the brand that starts with an E is good for about one day. AutoMeter withstands vibration much better.

Again you get what you pay for lol and they kinda look jap to me lol :haha:

I ended up with a couple new Equus gauges for darn near nothing($5 and both were brand new). One was an oil pressure gauge and the other a temp gauge..

The temp gauge worked for about a week and then it quit.. reads 200F all the time now, even if the engine is cold and it's 30 degrees outside.

Oil pressure gauge works just fine though, been 3 months now...

When I figure out what I am going to do for a dash I will definitely be using something better though... I hate chicom junk.
