Okay, so me and my brother have been planning a trip to Homer, Alaska for a few years now. We are almost at the point of where we will be able to go, probably around spring time. We got a map out, and are planning our route from Tacoma, WA to Homer, AK. We are trying to find any good four wheeling / camping sights between here and there. If any of you have any comments or suggestions it would be great! I hope this thread sticks around for a while so people can add stuff whenever they think of it. Thanks

Thats the map according to google.

Those directions are messed up. Buy a Milepost and use it to plan your trip. It will have all the waysides, eateries, gas stations, etc. in it. And if you plan on 2 days and 2 hours to make that drive, you are on drugs (I know mapquest is).

Spring is not the best time to come to Alaska to wheel. There is A LOT of water in the spring! And the ground is very soft. June-October is a great time to see Alaska.

Whatever you decide, drop me a line when the time gets closer and I will show you around.

We are not 100% on the time of year, we were wondering that about the spring time... Thanks for the info. And 2 days, bla bla bla, we are taking 3 weeks for the trip. I have been searching the net for a while now for good Alaskan off road site, and they all seem to not have been updated since around 2003..... Did 4x4ing die up there?

I've done the drive to AK from Michigan twice now. Buying the Milepost is definitely the best plan you could have for the trip.

I've done the drive down throug WA twice now, but I can't remember how long it takes to get down there. I want to say we spent about 4 days to drive it comfortably from Anchorage.

Have fun planning your trip and Don't rush it. Enjoy the drive. You can't make time up there like you can down here on the roads, so enjoy the scenery.

Thanks for the helpful info, I ordered that mag today. Hopefully it will be here within a week or two. Keep up the comments people!

be sure to take pics for the rest of us unfortunates

Yeah I could care less about the time that they state. I am going to take as long as it takes to get there, and as long as it takes to get back. This is a trip of leisure, and thanks to the Army I get paid vacation:-)

No I know that I'm just saying. I plan on doing the same thing one day. Except from NJ to AK via canada then back via US.

South Western BC has amazing wheeling. I've live and have only wheeled on Vancouver Island wich would be an expensive ferry ride for you. If you do come over I'll take you guys on a good trail run. Check this sight out for questions, invites and ideas in the lower Mainland (Vancouver Area).
