My uncle recently purchased a used 98 Tahoe. He bought it to tow a couple of empty car shells from CT to FL. He brought it to a tranny shop to make sure it had a clean bill of health and they told him that it had a car transmission and not the same transmission that Chevrolet put in the suburban. So they hosed him for 900 bucks worth of mods and a tranny cooler.
My question is: Is this true about the transmissions? I thought they were the same in the sub and tahoe? I realize it may be a good idea to get the tranny beefed up but its not really necessary is it?

Thanks

Andy

So you think the tranny's are the same in a tahoe and a half ton suburban? Does the tow package have a tranny cooler from the factory? If not what does it consist of?

The transmission is exactly the same. The tow package would only include a hitch, wiring, and transmission cooler.

Thanks. Im gonna ask them how they put a tranny cooler in there if there was one installed from the factory?

My 94 Tahoe came w/ 2 tranny coolers. One in the radiator, and an air/liquid one in front of the radiator.

Also has an engine oil cooler that goes to the radiator.

The tranny is a 4L60E.
