I have an 81 sub with a tail gate style rear door with the power glass. I was wondering if anybody knows if a true truck tail gate will fit it and if so what year? I also have power windows I would like to get rid of, so what years of doors are interchangeable? Any help would be great, thanks.

Word on the board around here has been that similar body style truck tailgates(73-87) will go right into a Blazer (73-91). You just need to get the hanging hardware and gate from a junkyard.

Doors are completely interchangeable (AFAIK) for these years as far as hanging and
matching the body lines. Interiors did change though. And to use any other doors on a 73-75, they need to be cut and reinforced for the full convertible top.

Hope this helps,

-Ben

I doubt it. At the least, whatcha gonna do about the window? :ears:

The Blazer and pickup tailgates are physically interchangeable over 73-87 pickups and 73-91 Blazers... HOWEVER, the Burb t-gates are different from the Blazer, so I would assume different from the PU :(

Doors all physically interchange for 73-87/91 as well.

I say "physically" as the wiring and trim changed over the years, but if you're putting manual doors on, anything'll fit.

HTH.

Good point.
For some reason in my head I had the Blazer and Suburban being interchangeable.... but now that I think of it, they are not!

What am I gonna do about the window? I don't know. It works and everything but this is going to just be a fun truck so I wanted to git rid of as muck wiring as possible. Plus I would like to rewire the whole thing and I figure it would be easier with out the power windows and AC.

take out all the guts from the electric tailgate, and swap in all the guts from a manual tailgate including the outside part where right now you put your key, you'll need that part from the manual tailgate as that part has the window crank.....or just swap the whole tailgate if you don't care about the color
