My tailgate window goes up and down very very slowly, with most of the time I have to help it go ... not sure if it's the regulatir or the motor any help as far as which one it is and or help to get the job done in example utube, websites of that nature would be appreciated thx

Lube is your friend. Slow moving gate glass is most commonly due to dry regulator tracks and worn plastic slides in the tracks. If this are dry and hanging up there's no way even a new motor is going to move the glass in either direction without struggling.

Get the glass down and open the gate. Remove the inside panel off of the gate to access the regulator. The glass down will block access to it. Unscrew the cable from the motor in the driver side corner of the gate and chuck the square cable in the center to a cordless drill. Moving slowly you can raise the glass out of the gate enough to access what you need. You'll see the tracks on the bottom of the glass and the rollers on the regulator arms inside of them. Lube.

If the rollers are less than round you'll have to replace them.

A little spray lube in the cable helps too. But most issues are in the tracks.

Ok so I purchased a new regulator and installed it but it doesn't go up once it starts going up into the top part of the shell ( I did get new felts for the tailgate and the top) so I think its the motor, cuz I ran it up and down with a drill and it works fine.. so I'll try getting a new one to see how that goes .. but I also notice in my catalog from the truck shop in Orange CA it shows there's a tailgate power window transmission do yall have that in yours ? Cuz mine don't. Not sure if it needs it or not ..tia

Good thing you figured it out.

New felt will cause it to not go up all of the way. Window is too tight. Mine did that. Pushed it up with my hands while wife ran the switch. Let it sit for a week and it was ok.

Did it work just fine after those few weeks? I mean did it go up and down properly or did u still have to push it up with your hands while the wifey hit the switch?

Ughhh I'm at a wall with this tailgate! So I'm into it with a new motor, new regulator and new cable ... but it still won't work properly.. it works really good when I do the drill straight to the cable but nothing with the motor... lost guys any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated..

Still slow, because they all are. But it went full up. These windows do not work like today's cars. Your drill motor has a substantially more torque than the factory style motor.

Yeah not expecting it to go up like a brand new car but thought it go up a bit more then it actually did... I did run it direct power to a batter and yet still slow or hardly anything...

Do you have vertical scratches on the window? Shim the rail away from the tailgate with a washer (4).

The transmission is easy to take apart and inspect, if it works good with a drill, it would seem to me the problem lies elsewhere.

Make sure the upper window channel is perfectly in line with the window channels in the tailgate when the tailgate is up. You can adjust the latches on the tailgate easily. Someone mentioned lube earlier, i use clear silicon spray lube on the felt and in the window channel. I even hit the edge of the glass. Makes a ton of difference.
You mentioned replacing the felt in the tailgate as well, make sure the rails are adjusted so the glass is centered in the channel leaving the top of tailgate.

Yeah the channeling or the felt isn't causing the problem.. the prob is that the actual window is not going up from out of the tail gate when the switch is pressed...

If it won't run with power directly to the motor, then it can't be the switch.

These setups can be problematic to say the least. It's why the manual conversion is so popular, but some of us use the electric quite often. The downside is, making it work properly.

What is the manual conversion? Mine is slow as hell.

Replace the electric guts with the manual parts. Then you use the hand crank at the tailgate to raise and lower the glass. Pretty much always works, but you've got to stand there to do it.

Did we ever check the grounds? Maybe use the battery trick and run a ground from the battery directly to the motor’s body? And or wire.

I didn’t have tailgate glass long. Went soft top and P/U gate
