Hey guys, newbie here. I’m trying to complete this tailpan install that was rusted and installed crooked. I removed the old one. I bought ospho for rust , Weld through primer and have etch primer. Can anyone explain the steps to use these products. And to install new tailpan?
I also have the tailgate posts.. I will be installing just the lower half’s. Do they go on first or after playing in tailpan? I’m using a flux core welder from harbor freight . Thanks again.

I think I would get the posts welded in and then check that the tailgate fits properly. After that I would brace the posts , pull the tailgate back off and weld the floor in.

In the factory, the rear quarter panels are installed after the tail pan and tailgate posts are installed, so you have to get creative replacing them. I found the back of the body can be raised enough to finagle the tail pan in with just the rear 4 body mount bolts removed.

If you had the body removed from the frame, you could do tailgate posts and then tail pan, buy with the frame there, tailpan has to be first. Read my thread and you'll see I did a minor cheat to get it all together.

Either way, the floor will be last.
