I replaced the tail pan on my Blazer with 2x3" tubing just this last week. I also had to fix the frame for the left rear body mount hole. I went off a write up I found on here. http://coloradok5.com/rustytailgatehinge.shtml
$35 for the tubing and $100 for the tailgate posts and floor pieces I used from www.classicparts.com
The 2"x3" fits almost perfectly where the original tail pan was.
I ended up welding the ends where the original tailpan bolted to the quarter panels due to the welded on nuts breaking off from rust.
I cut out the bottom 2/3 of each of the tailgate posts due to rust on them also. Before I welded in the replacement posts I welded in a piece of 2"x2" tubing vertically on each end of the 2x3 and then to the inside of the old posts to reinforce everything.
Oh yeah, I also installed all new poly body mount bushings front to back when I did this. I ended up gaining about in inch on heighth after all the work. Mine was really bad. My original tail pan was bowed down on each end. When I opened my tailgate it would rest on the bumper.
