hey guys

so i dropped my tailgate down i know that i need to replace my tail gate and such. But after i let it down i looked and my tail panel is rusting through and the bed floors is as well, just about 6 inches of it or so how hard is it to get that replaced i can get the replacement full panel for 200$ and the floor peice for about 30 $ how hard of a job is it? cause i know blazers are terrible for that panel rotting out and i wanna fix it before its fully gone!

be prepared to be down for a while. ryoken has been doing my tailpan and floors when he can, and once you start its a commitment. 200 dollars seems steep for the tailpan. if you are good with bodywork, and you have the time, you should be fine.

you will have to grind away the welds at the rear fenders where they connect to the tailpoan, and there is some bolts underneath at the corners.

drop the gastank also, and you will have to take off your bumper also.

good luck

ouch.. well i do have a body guy that can do it for me hes been doing all the work on my hot rod for me as well so ill see what he says. the bumper is easy to take off but the popane tank might be a bugger to do :S

There is more areas you can read!

Again I point toward the main site! :doah: Read the Technical Articles you can find lots of answers to questions asked. Here is one that deals with just your situation http://coloradok5.com/floorremoval.shtml

Remember knowledge is power and the more you know the more you grow!

awesome thanx for pointing that out to me big help thats for sure ill just have to get the peices and then talk to my body guy hopefully have it done in a week or a couple days lol

A replacement panel is going to be just as bad or worse than the original.

Replace it with 1/8" diamond plate! :D

(That's what I'm doing)

Only if you use aluminum.

If you use steel (as I plan to), just coat the back side with a rust-inhibitive paint and weld as normal.

ah ok i c now goodstuff lol well i just have to talk to my body guy and see what he wants to do about it lol its gonna suck but it needs to be fixed its structual and if i plan on keepin this thing i need it fixed!

Yup, time consuming stuff, that bodywork...

Not the job to be rushing.... Properly cutting out and prepping are critical... I always prefer to cut out all the bad stuff then sandblast the remaining areas to remove all signs of rust.. Then some zinc and weld-thru primer on the remaining areas...

It can take quite a bit of time to do it 100% right... Usually your cutting some corners somewhere to speed the process along a little...

And yeah, 200 is way overpriced for a tailpan.. Got one sitting in the garage, think they run $110, $120...

What exactly do you wanna know that wasn't answered?
