what's the story on the bow in my tailgate, did all of the tailgates on these trucks have like a 1/2 - 3/4" bow in the middle (at the bottom by the bed edge in the center). If so how did they seal out all the air coming in? I'm thinking about pressing mine out so it's straight

They came straignt from the factory AFAIK.
If yours is bowed someone must have set something real heavy on it.

they are so hard to press out its not even worth it. And when it gets pressed out it takes a whole lotta filler to take care of the wrinkles the press puts it. Easier to just find another tailgate.

Yeah mine came with a slight bow in it, then I tried to fix it and this is what I got....

well I wonder cause every one I"ve seen has had that bow in it, my truck I had and this blazer both and all the ones I find in salave yards have it

never paid any attention at the truck shows

Mine doesnt have a bow in it, thank god cause I priced them at junkyards and for one that says chevrolet in it they wanted like 200 bucks for one with rust.

You know you can use a pick up gate, just put the little metal plate across the top from your old gate.

So does everyone concur that it will wrinkle the gate pressing it out? I"m thinking like a large area kind of press deal, not so centralized. It only needs to move like 1/2" or so..... and it's not a show truck but I don't want it having wrinkles in the gate that look like I had the work done on the "other" side of town.

I was lucky with mine, my tailget was rusted beyond recognition, so I went to the grove, where we had an old trailer built from the bed of a truck os the same year, I took the tailgate off of it, and put that on my blazer, and in turn, my blazer tailgate will go on the trailer.

[/ QUOTE ] Have to agree! I had a '68 C10 with a straight gate until I was hauling about 30 sheets of 1/2" 4'x12' drywall(with the gate down obviously) and the load decided it would rather be in the middle of the street as I pulled away from a stop light on a pretty steep hill. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif Anyway, mine wound up with about a 2" bow to it. Great for water drainage but looked really sad! /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
