My rear window always worked at the dash switch, but would only go down with the key at the tailgate. It only bothered me occasionally, so i never messed with it after I discovered the po had cut the blue wire to bypass the safety switch. So today I took the left side latch apart to take a look.
When I got to looking at the switch, the plunger worked, but the end didn't contact the tab on the latch. Turned out it was forking bent! Not a clue how it got that way, so I straightened it slightly, spliced it back correctly, I got up and down at the tailgate! I have only owned this truck 22 years...all it needed was a 20 minute tinkered with it.
So now I just need to wire in a solenoid kit.
