Tailgate handle

Just sort of curious...is the outside handle on the tailgate of an '87 K5 supposed to turn, pop out, etc to open the tailgate, or is it just a sort of decorative thing for the lock?

its just for the lock, when they're new and work right you put the door key in and turn the window up or down, turn down and open from the inside handle.

are you referring to the electric motorized window or the manual gate? i guess i assume you're referring to the motorized one, like jpdrake is referring to, but manual models are available where it pops out so you can crank the window like a manual crank window on a door.

Yeah, mine's the power rear window, but the lock cylinder must be frozen up in the tailgate - the key won't even go into it.
