Does anyone know anything about the rod that goes into the channel on the tailgate to help assist in closing it? Mine was in three pieces and fell out and now the tailgate is extremely difficult to close.

I assume you mean on a square blazer or suburban. It is a torsion spring attached at each end. It helps lift the heavy tailgate with the windows in them. The pickups do not have them. Just get a replacement and bolt one back in. Extra set of hands helps.

Where do I purchase one? So far I've been unable to locate one.

I might have one, I did a truck tailgate swap on my blazer. Let me check the parts shed. Not sure if they are available or if it's a junkyard part.

man if you had one that would be great. Nothing online , junkyards don't have tailgates from 84-87 Blazers.

I have a pair, let me see what size box they fit in. They are off a 1990, I have no idea if there are multiple styles. The guys on here will probably chime in. What's your zip code?

They sell aftermarket helpers, not sure if they would fit your truck. Try searching for tailgate torsion rods, or helpers.
I know they make one for an '89, Amazon sells them. Not sure bout your truck.

There's a right and a left not just one.

Never seen them other than used.
Ok well that makes me a bit smarter but still without them.

Here you go, left and right. I probably can't check shipping until Friday.

I miss my helpers. That gate is pretty heavy, hopeless for me to close it with anything in my hands. Thing is, I don't think there's anything you can do if you don't have the factory bumper. They wedge under there somehow IIRC. Curious, anyone rigged anything up with an aftermarket bumper?

It's been several months since I pulled the springs out but I don't think they were hooked to the bumper. They were either in pockets in body or hooked on a bumper bolt. I looked at a 89 V2500 suburban last night, it has a single spring in the center. Different from the blazer.
