Ok, just replace the motor for the window and it raised up without engaging the switch. What do I need to check and how do I check it?

Did you or the P/O mess with the wiring inside the tailgate? Because the two wires going to the motor are both 12v (one makes it go up and one makes it go down) and the case of the motor is ground. Other than that I would say either the switch in the gate or on the dash are bad with an emphasis on the gate switch.

And if you still have the old one, I'm assuming it doesn't work, is there any chance I could work out a deal to get that from you?

No one has messed with the wiring, I've had the truck going on 10 yrs now. I figured it is the tailgate switch but wanted to get a little more insight from someone who has more knowledge/experience. I just found a tech article about the break down of the tailgate. I guess I'll have to replace the switch.

It's been a while since I've been inside my tailgate. If you have an ohm meter you can check the switch - 0 ohms means it's shorted out in case you're not familiar with it. You might be able to take the switch apart and clean it. Don't forget the dielectric grease upon reassembly. Or you can try spraying inside it with some contact cleaner that you can get from Radio Shack.

Sweet, I forgot about contact cleaner. Thanks, sounds like it's going to be a busy day tomorrow.
