The tailgate window motor for my '88 Jimmy is getting pretty slow. It seems like it labors in either direction. I had greased the regulator teeth the last time I had it open but that did not seem to help. Is the motor on it's way out or is there something else I should look at? Is there a replacement motor available. Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure if yours is cable driven or gear but if it is cable driven that's usually the cause of the motor slowin down. As far as the motor goes I found my replacment at auto zone. Cant quite remember the price but I cannot imagine it'd be too much considering it's auto zone after all. Any who, yeah check the cable (if applicable) and if it's not that go after the motor.

I just wired in a new electric window tailgate this weekend using relays. I have a new cable on the way from LMC that I am expecting tonight or tomorrow ($25 or so plus shipping). As soon as I get it all together I will time it raising and lowering to let you know how it performs.

Mine had been acting up too and eventually stoped halfway up, so yesterday I opened up the back and put my battery drill on the cable and it moved down/up pretty good. Decided I would put it up so I could clean the regulator gears and regrease and my cable started binding. The cable was very crusty looking from what I can tell and I'm pretty positive its was the problem. If it weren't it is now b/c I ruined it with the drill.

Should have taken it out of the transmission box and tried to free it up first.

Oh well, LMC Truck to the rescue.

I did see the cable in the catalog. I am assuming this is my problem because the motor does work. It just labors as if something is binding or the like. Let me know how yours turns out. Thanks!

Will do. I am going to order my cable from LMC today. I need new rubber inner and outer window seals for that too. I can't believe they are 30.00 each.

Anyone replace those and can reply to difficulty and things to be careful of?

Tks
Tom

Pull the cable out and try twisting it. That will let you know if it's the cable. You can clean it out which often helps. I used WD-40, then compressed air, and let it hang for gravity:wink1:. Then I forced some new grease back in.

If you can figure out your wiring you could pull the motor and connect it directly to the battery to see if it runs better. If it does check your ground on the window motor and follow your wiring looking for bad connections.

mine was doing this and it was the cable...i took it out and the sheath had ripped and the wire was begining to fray i got a "new" one out of a junkyard.

they are pretty easy to replace, only about 10 min a piece. just remember, when you pull off the old ones, you are probably going to bend the tabs inside the tailgatethat the clips go into. be sure to bend them back into place on the tailgate before installing the new one. otherwise, it wont be tight and the seal might pull out.

hope that helps!
