I have been looking to replace my rust infected tailgate. buddy of mine says I can have an extra one he has laying around but it has a power window. I don't have power anything and I don't want to start. Are they the same minus the guts? Can I transfer my guts over to the one he has laying around? Are they the same minus the electrical part that I can tear out?

:dunno:

I am pretty sure they are the same.

If you do take out the guts, be warned:

The arms which attach to the glass sash piece are under pressure and spring loaded. To safely remove them you need to drill a hole through an area where both arms are over/under each other, and then put a bolt through the new hole so that it goes though each arm and the arms are immobilized. Otherwise, if you remove it, the arms can jump violently and cut your fingers off!

can we all say "GUILLOTINE"

Completely agree, especially when the tailgate is on the floor and your finger gets caught and nobody is around to help you get out of it. However it unloaded on me when I unbolted the motor from the lifting arms, this is when you need to be careful because the motor is what was keeping the arms down. Also helps if you have on gloves, which I did not (first question my dad asked me while he was driving me to get the stitches).

This is once I got the lifting arms out a few days later, the crowbar is where my finger got caught

Happened about a month ago, had nerve damage and you can't tell it but from the side the cut was about 1/4" deep. I have all feeling back now but a buildup of scar tissue under the skin, glad it didn't hit at the joint.

So learn from my mistake!!

Wow I'm glad I found this thread. I was going to take mine apart to grease everything up. Now I'll have ten fingers when I'm done.
