I bought weatherstripping for the Suburban last week and spent Friday and today putting it in, what a difference. This is from Precision, and by doing the front doors and tailgate seal/window I have the radio 10 levels lower and can hear it better.
But my tailgate is beat up, it has a tear in it, the top edge where the window seal sits is bent in all 3 axis. You have to slam the piss out of it for it to close, and pray it opens. So while I had the window out I attempted to adjust the latch. Found out thats a left handed bolt once it snapped off. Got it adjusted and it would open once great, then not again unless I popped the cover off and pulled on the rods. This game went on for about an hour until I realized that the force required to shut it, combined with the torn metal that allows the inner skin to flex, lets the latch safey roller wheel flip and go into the window up mode, stopping the latch from fully working.
I don’t plan on painting the Suburban for 5+ years but when I do, I’m finding a new, unmolested tailgate.
