Tailgate replacement

I understood that the P/U tailgate was a direct bolt on, so I assumed that meant any fleetside from 73 - 87, now I hear they changed, "the gates changed in 79/80 to 81 up".

Can anyone tell me what year P/U I should be looking to use for my '76 Blazer.

I keep hearing there was year changes but I bolted my 89' factory taligate up to my 73' Blazer and it fits fine.

LMC lists different #'s, but I think it's cosmetic, i.e. shape of the indent on the back. I *believe* the mounting is the same, so as long as you don't need a "correct-for-your-year" look, use whatever you like.

yes, its just the shape and i think the depth of the indent in the tailgate that is different. they did change the latch on the tailgate in 75 or 76, but i believe they will interchage with each other.

I installed an '82 pickup tailgate on my '73 and another '82 on my '75 K-5's

yeah they changed from non-removable gate(not rmeovable without having to unbolt a pivot) to the rmeovable ones(gate has a slot in bottom of one end so you can lift it off the pivot)

have to watch that

but its an easy fix if you swap the style of pivots


some of the 77-up changed some didnt and then 81 up in most cases

it seems very random

some trucks of the same year seem ot have one or the other and you jut never know which

but anyways yes they changed, but you can jut swap the pivot(s)

no real big deal
